Sharjah– The Expo Centre Sharjah wrapped up the 54th edition of the Watch and Jewellery Middle East Show (WJMES) on Sunday, attracting over 80,000 visitors—a 7 percent increase from last year. This milestone reinforces the event’s status as a leading jewellery trade exhibition in the Middle East and North Africa.

Held under the patronage of H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, and supported by the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), the five-day event featured over 900 exhibitors from prominent global companies and luxury brands specializing in gold jewellery, timepieces, and gemstones.

This year’s show saw the participation of 90 new exhibitors from countries including India, Mexico, and various East Asian nations, joining key representatives from the UAE, Italy, the UK, the US, Russia, Singapore, China, Japan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain.

The final day included exclusive prize draws, featuring a kilogram of gold and valuable jewellery items like luxury diamond rings and necklaces. Attendees were also treated to the sight of the “Meriet Al-Mustaqbal,” the world’s largest gold jewellery set, crafted from approximately 5 kilograms of 21-karat gold and valued at AED 2.5 million. Another highlight was the world’s longest “Mertasha,” measuring 220 cm and priced at over AED 2.3 million.

A notable feature of this edition was the “Emirati Goldsmiths” pavilion, showcasing the work of 20 Emirati designers, including the youngest female participant. Their creations drew inspiration from the UAE’s cultural heritage, blending modern influences with global trends.

Saif Mohammed Al Midfa, CEO of Expo Centre Sharjah, expressed satisfaction with this year’s event, pointing out the increase in exhibitors and international participation. He emphasized the show’s role in advancing the gold and jewellery sector in the UAE and the wider region, with many exhibitors confirming plans to return in future editions.

This year also marked the debut of the Sharjah Business Women Council (SBWC) pavilion, which displayed jewellery crafted by its members, garnering significant interest from attendees.

Among the standout designs were a masterpiece shaped like a winged Arabian falcon valued at AED 4.2 million, a purebred Arabian horse figurine priced at AED 3.25 million, and a lavish diamond set valued at AED 8 million.
