Shamsa Alabbar partners with Piaget for a second Limelight Gala Limited Edition, honouring the Gulf’s maritime legacy. Featuring Alabbar’s signature Token motif on a mother-of-pearl dial, the Ramadan 2025 release reflects her family’s deep ties to the sea

Dubai: Emirati jewellery designer Shamsa Alabbar, in collaboration with Piaget, has unveiled a second Limelight Gala Limited Edition ahead of Ramadan 2025. The watch pays homage to the Gulf’s maritime heritage and its longstanding connection to pearls, a theme deeply personal to Alabbar.

For Alabbar, this design is more than just a collaboration—it is a tribute to her family’s history with the sea. Her grandfather was a dhow captain, navigating vast waters, while her other grandfather was a skilled pearl diver, sourcing the natural gems that once shaped the region’s trade. Through this creation, she seeks to honour their legacy and preserve their journey in a form that will last for generations.

The timepiece features an exclusive dial with her signature Token motif, delicately set on a mother-of-pearl background. Alabbar sees this as a direct reflection of her heritage, seamlessly blending traditional Gulf elements with Piaget’s craftsmanship. The mother-of-pearl, sourced for its delicate iridescence, echoes the natural beauty of the pearls her ancestors once sought.

According to Alabbar, this partnership with Piaget is a deeply personal milestone. The Maison’s expertise in high-jewellery timepieces provides the perfect platform to bring her vision to life. She believes that the Limelight Gala Precious watch represents more than just luxury—it embodies the fusion of history, identity, and fine craftsmanship.

This second collaboration follows the success of her first project with Piaget, further cementing her role in the international luxury space. For Alabbar, integrating cultural symbolism into contemporary design is essential. She sees the increasing demand for meaningful, narrative-driven pieces in the high jewellery and watchmaking sector, and this limited-edition watch aligns with that shift.

As Ramadan 2025 approaches, Alabbar hopes the timepiece will resonate with collectors who appreciate jewellery and watches as more than adornments, but as storied pieces of art. With this release, she continues her mission of storytelling through design, ensuring that her family’s maritime legacy remains a part of the present and future.
