‘Going Back in Time’

A client had seen a design of a sartej at a jewellery show in Hong Kong. He wanted a similar one made here. He was shopping for his wedding and wanted something different. The brief given to us was a piece in 200 gm, triangle shape with rose cut polkis and adorned with Colombian emeralds and pearls. The back would have a jaali design. It involved a lot of labour but we were ready to take up this challenge. First, we had to find a single-cut diamond, which we managed with some difficulty. Then we found a kaarigar who could do this work. This kind of jewellery is not made anymore, so we had to be very careful in order to get the design right. Finally, when it was made, the client was overjoyed as he had not expected that we would be able to make it exactly as he had wanted it to be. Our effort was successful.
