Spring Festival spikes sales in jewellery shops
The Souq Waqif Spring Festival, which concluded Friday, has helped in boosting the sales of gold and precious stones at the jewellery outlets at Souq Waqif and Souq Najadah, local Arabic daily ‘Arrayah’ reported. Shop owners stressed that an estimated increase of around 25% was observed recently due to the substantial turnout of Qatar residents and visitors from different countries.
Ahmed al-Emadi, owner of a gold shop, said that he has seen a considerable increase in footfall at the gold shops at Souq Waqif and Souq Najadah due to the activities of the Spring Festival. “When people come to enjoy the festivities they would also explore the various shopping options,” he remarked.
Anwar Saleh, a jewellery shop owner, said he has observed a good turnout of customers willing to buy different types of gold, silver jewellery and precious stones. The visitors coming to enjoy the festivities often go shopping for gifts as well. Ammar Ahmed, a salesman at a jewellery shop, pointed out that foreign tourists often go for small souvenirs with simple designs while the traditional models usually attracts locals and expatriates from Asian countries.
