Chanel unveils flagship watch and jewellery store in New York City featuring brand’s classic offerings
Patrice Leguéreau, Director of Chanel’s fine jewellery creation studio, has curated a high jewellery collection named Eternal N°5, featuring a transformable diamond necklace and earrings exclusively available in New York
USA: In the United States, Chanel recently inaugurated a new flagship store on Fifth Avenue, exclusively dedicated to watches and jewellery. Positioned between Chopard and Mikimoto, this novel boutique marks a significant milestone as the first of its kind in New York City and the fourth globally. Renowned luxury architect Peter Marino, recognized for his work with prestigious brands like Tiffany & Co. and Bulgari, spearheaded the design. The boutique, characterized by meticulous attention to detail, boasts custom-made features, including a staircase adorned with rock crystal and 24-karat gold-coated brass crafted by Goossens, a Parisian goldsmith and jeweller acquired by Chanel in 2005. Marino’s design extends to the store’s fixtures, including 17th-century Japanese Eido screens and an Ingrid Donato coffee table housed in the VIP room.
The two-story store features the maison’s Lion Solaire de Chanel pieces, inspired by Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel’s astrological sign of Leo. This represents just one example of the exclusive creations available solely in this boutique. Patrice Leguéreau, Director of Chanel’s fine jewellery creation studio, has curated a high jewellery collection named Eternal N°5, featuring a transformable diamond necklace and earrings exclusively available in New York.
While high jewellery takes the spotlight at the entrance, a room to the right is dedicated to Chanel’s fine jewellery pieces, including the popular Coco Crush and Camélia collections. Watches are situated towards the rear of the store, showcasing everything from the brand’s J12 collection to its high jewellery watches. Noteworthy is an oversized diamond-encrusted model inspired by a seamstress’s pin cushions. Additionally, a solo vitrine features the remarkable Boyfriend Skeleton watch adorned with ultra-high-end sapphire crystal and diamonds.
A visit to the store offers an opportunity not only to admire the current jewels and watches but also to explore an exhibition showcasing jewels from Chanel’s archival Patrimony Collection. Among these treasures are a stunning diamond tiara and early jewellery motifs, such as a crescent moon and star diamond brooch. However, this collection will only be on display in the store for two months before being replaced with more high jewellery from the current offering.
These pieces serve as a compelling reminder that while Chanel’s origins lie in its clothing, its gems have been delivering exceptional designs since 1932, remaining just as contemporary today as they were then. Some pieces are so extraordinary that clients may find themselves yearning to acquire them or, at the very least, requesting a recreation.
Furthermore, the store showcases a diamond masterpiece playfully modelled after Chanel’s iconic N°5 fragrance bottle, featuring a colossal 55.55-carat DF L Type IIa diamond at its core. Although this showstopper is not available for purchase, it undoubtedly merits a closer look or a snapshot.
