DANAT commits to gender equality, signs UN women’s empowerment principles

Manama – The Bahrain Institute for Pearls and Gemstones (DANAT) has reaffirmed its dedication to promoting gender equality by becoming a signatory of the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs). This significant step underscores DANAT’s commitment to empowering women across all facets of its operations, from the workplace to the broader marketplace and society.
The Women’s Empowerment Principles, comprising seven key principles, advocating for corporate leadership on gender equality, fair treatment of employees, health and safety enhancements, career advancement through education and training, responsible project and supply chain development, community engagement, advocacy, and robust measurement and reporting practices.
By integrating these principles into its framework, DANAT emphasizes its role in advancing gender equality within its organization and beyond.
Noora Jamsheer, CEO of DANAT Institute, expressed, “Becoming a signatory of the WEPs was a natural progression for DANAT. These principles align seamlessly with our core values, reflecting Bahrain’s strong commitment to women’s empowerment initiatives led by the Supreme Council for Women.”
Jamsheer highlighted DANAT’s acknowledgment of women’s significant contributions to social and economic progress. These contributions have been pivotal in elevating DANAT’s global stature and reinforcing Bahrain’s leadership in the pearls, jewellery, and diamonds sector.
DANAT’s commitment to gender equality is exemplified through inclusive workplace policies aimed at empowering women, including flexible working hours, maternity leave provisions, and other supportive measures.
The CEO reiterated DANAT’s comprehensive approach to fostering gender equality, ensuring equitable salaries, equal opportunities for professional development and leadership roles, and creating a nurturing environment conducive to women’s success.
Within DANAT, women constitute a majority of the workforce and hold significant leadership positions, underscoring the institute’s proactive stance on women’s empowerment. DANAT continues to implement strategies aimed at further enhancing women’s empowerment within its organizational structure.
