Kuwait’s Ministry of Commerce committed to upholding rigorous standards for gold jewellery quality
The reassurance follows recent social media rumours regarding the seizure of gold with forged stamps
Kuwait City — The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI) has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the highest standards in the gold jewellery sector, emphasising strict supervision and regulatory compliance. The ministry conducts regular inspection tours in the gold market to ensure quality and integrity across all commercial activities related to gold, jewellery, and precious metals.
In a statement released on Monday, MOCI spokesperson Abdullah Al-Harez addressed recent social media rumors regarding the seizure of gold with forged stamps. Al-Harez clarified that these claims pertain to an incident from 2021 and that corrective measures were promptly implemented at that time.
Al-Harez further explained that a joint team from the Commercial Control Department and the Precious Metals Department continually monitors the market. This oversight includes verifying the accuracy of scales and ensuring adherence to sales and purchase regulations.
Consumers are advised to request detailed invoices for their gold purchases, including information on weight, carat, and value. They can then verify these details with the Precious Metals Department at MOCI to ensure accuracy.
