Mehran Mahallati talks to The Retail jeweller World about his family’s jewellery business and the art of owning ‘luxury’ in Dubai

Tell us about your brand. When did it start and how has the journey been?

We are a business that is fully owned and run by the family. The high diamond jewellery brand now spans 3 generations —a true representation of a Middle Eastern heritage of opulence, trust and hospitality.  We pride ourselves in developing long lasting relationships with all our clients and ensuring that all their jewellery needs are met.  We specialise in high-end diamond jewellery with a flair for unique opulent sets.

Talk to us about your operations in the Middle East.

We have 5 retail boutiques in Dubai with special offices that cater to our private clientele with custom jewellery.

Are there any specific trends that you notice in the Middle East? What kind of designs do you concentrate on to cater to those need?

The Middle East doesn’t follow trends. Here, we create trends where ultimate luxury and quality are the only criteria.  Dubai is one of the only places in the world where you can wear your wealth and be comfortable and safe.  So, our collections concentrate on the best quality diamonds in the most unique designs.

The Middle East is the hub of jewellery. How has your brand worked here and how do you plan to branch out?

Being of Middle Eastern heritage, our brand is all about family.  Every customer is unique and coming close them and understanding them is the most important aspect of being a jeweller here.  We have worked with generations within a family, we have been a part of engagements, marriages, birthdays and more.  Being a constant in their lives is how our brand has worked.  Being in Dubai, a destination that is reachable on a global scale, we have been able to expand our family on scale without over expansion across the world.  Here the world comes to us.

Talk to us about your collections. Which of these have done especially well in the pandemic scenario, especially in the Middle East? What price points do well here?

Pandemic or not, life goes on.  Love perseveres and so, occasions that need commemorating still occur.  Sentimental jewellery has seen a boost in the market.  With many being forced to take the time to slow down appreciation of love and life has pushed people to find ways to show the special people in their lives.
