DANAT hosts summer internship programme for UOB science students

The objective of the practice remains supporting the national goal of revitalising Bahrain’s pearl industry and enhancing the Kingdom’s role as a global leader in pearl and gemstone services
Manama: The Bahrain Institute for Pearls and Gemstones (DANAT) recently concluded its summer internship programme, hosting students from the University of Bahrain’s College of Science for an immersive two-month experience. This initiative aims to cultivate interest in the pearls and gemstones sector among Bahraini science students and reflects DANAT’s commitment to social responsibility, youth empowerment, and skill development.
The internship provided a comprehensive training experience, including theoretical lectures on pearls and oysters, as well as practical training in DANAT’s research department. Students also participated in a two-week specialised course, which offered insights into the advanced technologies used in DANAT’s cutting-edge laboratory for pearl examination.
Noora Jamsheer, CEO of DANAT, expressed enthusiasm about the programme’s impact, stating, “The consistent success of this programme motivates us to continue expanding it, drawing more aspiring Bahraini youth into the world of pearls and gemstones. This effort supports the national goal of revitalising Bahrain’s pearl industry and enhancing the Kingdom’s role as a global leader in pearl and gemstone services.”
Ali Al-Atawi, Laboratory Director at DANAT, praised the students for their enthusiasm and dedication. “Their engagement has been impressive,” he said. “This programme is part of a broader initiative by DANAT to inspire young people to explore the field of pearls and gemstones. Our goal is to integrate them into the Institute’s activities, which include various programs, courses, and workshops focused on research, data analysis, and scientific report writing.”
Prof. Mohammed El-Hilo, Dean of the College of Science at the University of Bahrain, commended DANAT for its innovative programmes and valued partnership with the university. “We are grateful to DANAT for organising this distinguished training programme. Their efforts provide Bahraini students with the knowledge and skills essential for success in the pearls and gemstones industry,” Prof. El-Hilo said.
The summer internship programme underscores DANAT’s ongoing dedication to fostering talent and advancing the pearls and gemstones sector in Bahrain.
