Bahrain’s Kyan Jewelry collaborates with artist Mayasa Al Sowaidi to introduce oil-painted jewellery line 

Founder Amal Sanad, who is a proponent of creativity and innovation in design, worked closely with Al Sowaidi to create the ‘Secret Garden’ collection. The award-winning collection, was also recognised at Milano Jewellery Week 

Bahrain: Bahrain-based Kyan Jewelry, led by founder Amal Sanad, has collaborated with artist and doctor Mayasa Sultan Al Sowaidi to launch an innovative collection that merges fine jewellery with oil painting. This partnership has resulted in a distinctive line of wearable art, blending traditional craftsmanship with contemporary artistic expression.

The collection, inspired by the concept of a “secret garden,” invites wearers to cherish intimate moments and connections. Each piece reflects a balance of intricate design and artistic vision. Al Sowaidi’s expertise in painting on unconventional mediums was central to this collaboration. Adapting her oil painting techniques to the small-scale surfaces of jewellery was a challenge that required precision, including the use of magnifiers to achieve the desired detail and vibrancy in each piece. 

Amal Sanad, who is also a proponent of creativity and innovation in design, worked closely with Al Sowaidi to develop the collection. Sanad designed frames for the jewellery pieces that not only enhanced the painted elements but also incorporated unique signatures and details on the reverse side. The intricate process involved protecting the painted surfaces with resin to ensure durability, while still maintaining the delicate essence of the artwork.

The collaboration received international recognition, winning an award at Milano Jewellery Week. Highlighting the novelty of wearable art, Al Sowaidi remarked, “You can put art in your house, but when you wear art, it’s something different.” This statement captures the ethos of the project, which seeks to make artistic expression a part of everyday life through jewellery. 

Sanad expressed her aim to challenge the notion that innovation in jewellery has reached its limits. By combining Al Sowaidi’s artistic techniques with Kyan Jewelry’s craftsmanship, the duo has demonstrated how traditional boundaries can be expanded. The intricate oil paintings bring an element of storytelling to the jewellery, transforming each piece into a personal and visual narrative. 

The collection’s success also underscores the potential for interdisciplinary collaborations in the jewellery industry. By integrating fine art into fine jewellery, Sanad and Al Sowaidi have set a precedent for exploring new creative territories.
