BAJUS announces jewellery park and Bangladesh’s first gold souk
Located at the prestigious Bashundhara City Shopping Complex in Dhaka, it aims to be the distribution hub of indigenous gold produced in Bangladesh, by the Bashundhara Gold Refinery Ltd (BGRL)
The Bangladesh Jeweller’s Association (BAJUS) will soon inaugurate the country’s first jewellery park. Located at the prestigious Bashundhara City Shopping Complex in Dhaka, it aims to be the distribution hub of indigenous gold produced in Bangladesh, by the Bashundhara Gold Refinery Ltd (BGRL). This is a major step taken by BAJUS to consolidate the gold jewellery business in one of the emerging markets in the global gold industry. The organization has directed their energies into growing the gold business, fostering the supply chain and streamlining marketing in Bangladesh.
The jewellery park is being promoted as the country’s own first-class gold souk; it will be located at Level 7 of the shopping complex, and according to sources, 200 shops of 300 square feet each are ready to be allotted on a priority basis to gold traders. Those retailers and manufacturers connected with the jewellery park will get special privileges and offers, and gold and ornaments produced by BGRL will be marketed through the distribution channel of the park. Through this initiative, BAJUS hopes to curb gold smuggling and money laundering and contribute to the Bangladesh economy.
BAJUS started its activities to transform the post-independence war-torn country into the golden Bengal of its dreams, expanding the domestic gold industry and promoting economic emancipation. It became institutionalized on Thursday, May 12, 1984.
The main objective of BAJUS is to ensure customer service, to patronize the domestic gold industry and to safeguard the interests of jewellery traders. It aims to present the tradition of the country’s jewellery industry in the world court and to lead its jewellery business in the world market. BAJUS determines the price of gold in the domestic market, taking into account the international market, the domestic market and the general consumer.
