MET Gala 2023: Diamonds shine bright on celebrities on red carpet at ‘fashion’s biggest night’

From Rihanna to Priyanka Chopra, stars at the event wore fashionable diamond and precious jewellery, as the theme honoured the late Karl Lagerfeld and his diamond designs

The Met Gala, known as ‘fashion’s biggest night’, is perhaps the world’s most prestigious and glamorous fashion event and social gathering, and it was no different this year. The annual fundraising gala held for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City saw celebrities sporting a lot of fashion and natural diamonds as the theme ‘Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty’ honoured the late Karl Lagerfeld and his diamond designs.

Michelle Yeoh

The Oscar winner wore a diamond necklace from Cartier with matching earrings to the event.

Alia Bhatt

Bollywood actor Alia Bhatt wore a natural diamond ring from Malabar Gold and Diamonds, paired with Prabal Gurung’s pearl-encrusted gown. She also wore couture glovelettes, celeste jewelled hair bow, and orion nova earrings by Kaabia and Sasha Grewal of Outhouse Jewellery.

Lily James

English actress Lily James wore a natural diamond necklace with a pear shape centre from De Beers’s latest collection, The Alchemist of Light, along with De Beers’s diamond tennis necklace and diamond square studs.

Rihanna and ASAP Rocky

Rihanna wore a custom Valentino with Belperron earrings and a Bulgari necklace while her partner ASAP wore Ruban Diamants pave studded diamond belt. 

Doja Cat

Doja Cat was dripping in diamonds from Messika in an Oscar De La Renta gown.

Isha Ambani

Executive Director, Reliance Retail Ventures Limited, Isha Ambani Piramal wore an XXL diamond neck stack, statement solitaire earrings and a custom ‘haathphool’ inspired natural diamond hand jewel by Lorraine Schwartz. 

Dua Lipa

Albanian singer Dua Lipa stepped on the red carpet wearing Tiffany & Co.’s Lucida Star Necklace, becoming the first person to wear this reset diamond, which was previously set in Jean Schlumberger’s celebrity favorite, Bird on a Rock brooch. The yellow natural diamond is a 128.54-carat cushion cut.

Priyanka Chopra

Indian actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas wore Bulgari’s Laguna Blu, which is currently on auction at Sotheby’s. The vivid blue diamond weighs 11.16 carats and was set for the first time in a diamond chain necklace.Since 1970, the diamond had been originally set in a ring.

Lily Collins

British American actress Lily Collins wore diamonds from Cartier to the gala.

Natasha Poonawalla

Chairperson of the Villoo Poonawalla Foundation Natasha Poonawalla wore a natural diamond hair jewel on an equally sleek ponytail. 

Kendall Jenner

The famous Kardashian and American model Kendall Jenner wore a sequined ensemble from Marc Jacobs and 30-carat rose-cut diamond flower earrings from Lorraine Schwartz.

Rita Ora

Rita Ora wore diamond cuffs, rings, and chandelier earrings from Buccellati.

Anne Hathaway

The actress wore an atelier Versace and Bulgari diamonds.

Christina Ricci

The star wore a natural diamond bracelet from Gismondi as well as matching diamond rings and sculptural diamond earrings. 

Cara Delevingne

The model, who was a close friend of Karl Lagerfeld, paid homage to the late designer with his signature colour palette: black and white. She wore leather moto gloves, along with edgy natural diamonds from Chrome Hearts, to complete the look.
