Dubai Business Group says the pearl best represents the Emirati woman’s identity

Dubai: Ahead of Emirati Women’s Day, celebrated on August 28 each year, Khawla Alnoman, Vice Chairperson of the Dubai Business Group for Gold and Jewelry Designers, and Founder and Designer of Alhes Jewelry, sought to answer the question: “If the Emirati woman were a precious gem, which one would represent her, and why?” She identified the pearl as one precious gem that truly represents the Emirati woman, highlighting its pureness, and connection to the UAE’s history, heritage and identity.

Alnoman described the pearl as a representation of the Emirati woman’s connection to her roots while reflecting her role in the country’s present and future. The pearl has a longstanding association with the UAE, where pearling was an important part of the economy and maritime heritage before the discovery of oil. Alnoman described the Emirati woman as a pearl — pure, radiant and deeply rooted in authenticity.

Alnoman further highlighted the role of Emirati women in contributing to the development of the UAE, describing them as combining their cultural identity with contemporary ambitions and contributing to the country through their achievements.

The comparison also reflects the continued relevance of the pearl within the UAE’s jewellery sector. Historically associated with the country’s pearling communities, the pearl remains a recurring element in jewellery design and continues to feature in contemporary collections by UAE-based designers.

Notably, for the year 2026, Emirati Women’s Day marks a historic first by expanding into a month-long national celebration running from August 28 through September 28, 2026.

The Dubai Business Group for Gold and Jewelry Designers (DBGGJD) is an official initiative under the Dubai Chambers created to support, unite, and advance the UAE’s jewellery design industry.
