Alfardan Jewellery highlights its natural pearl legacy and sector outlook at GemGenève

The brand also focused on evolving market structures and the role of standardized practices in the natural pearls industry
Doha: Hussain Ibrahim Alfardan, Founder of Alfardan Jewellery, recently presented a talk about the brand’s legacy in natural pearls at the exclusive GemGenève gem and jewellery fair in Geneva, Switzerland. He outlined the brand’s long-standing engagement with natural pearls and its role in maintaining continuity within a category defined by rarity and limited supply.
Speaking at the event, Alfardan described how the natural pearl segment continues to operate within constrained availability, with sourcing largely dependent on historic collections and established trade networks. Unlike cultured pearls, natural pearls are formed without human intervention, making their occurrence rare and their supply finite. This has led to increased reliance on documentation, certification and traceability to support authenticity and valuation in global markets, he said.
“Natural pearls represent a record of time and origin. Their value is not only determined by their appearance but also by the history that accompanies each piece, supported by documentation and verified sourcing,” stated Hussain Ibrahim Alfardan, Chairman of Alfardan Group and founder of Alfardan Jewellery.
Alfardan Jewellery detailed its approach to building and maintaining inventory over decades, supported by internal systems for cataloguing and authentication. The brand works with collectors, experts and institutions to ensure consistency in grading standards and origin tracking. This structured approach allows for transparency in transactions and supports confidence among buyers operating in the high-value segment.
The discussion also referenced the historical pearl trade in the Gulf region, where diving communities and merchant networks formed the foundation of early supply chains. These routes connected the Gulf to international markets and established the region as a key centre for natural pearls. The legacy of these practices continues to influence how pearls are sourced, documented and positioned in the present market.
“Our responsibility is to ensure that knowledge is preserved alongside the material. Every pearl carries a context that must be recorded and communicated clearly, from its origin to its movement across collections and markets,” Alfardan added.
At GemGenève, the presentation formed part of a broader programme examining gemstones, jewellery history and evolving market structures. The platform brought together dealers, historians and collectors, enabling exchange of knowledge and access to rare materials within a controlled environment.
The session highlighted the need for standardized practices across sourcing, documentation and disclosure, particularly as interest in natural pearls continues to expand. It also reinforced the role of legacy-driven businesses such as AlfardanJewellery in sustaining specialized segments through long-term market participation, structured processes and continued collaboration with global stakeholders.
Alfardan Jewellery operates a significant network of luxury boutiques, with primary concentration in Qatar. The brand has locations at the Pearl-Qatar, Villaggio, and Landmark Mall, in addition to other locations in Doha. Its network extends across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), with locations in Dubai, Riyadh and Muscat, often having retail collaborations with major high-end brands.
