Exquisite Diamond Jewellery To Dream About This Spring

From Marilyn Monroe’s 24-carat pear-shaped gem in the 1953 classic Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, to the priceless “Pink Panther” rock in Blake Edwards’ 1963 film of the same name, the silver screen has had an enduring love affair with April’s birthstone, the diamond. More recently the precious stone has been central to plots in films like the Ocean’s heist trilogy and the award-winning Uncut Gems.
The diamond’s real-life allure is no less potent. In late January, it was announced that Louis Vuitton had purchased the biggest uncut diamond in the world – the 1,758 carat Sewelo diamond. Discovered at the Karowe mine in Botswana last year, and the largest rough diamond to be found since 1905 (Sewelo translates as “rare find”), the fashion house purchased the stone for an undisclosed sum thought to be in the tens of millions of pounds.
Perhaps April babies will be gifted a fabulous iteration of their birthstone this year, in lieu of an actual birthday party? A girl can dream. Browse British Vogue’s edit of the best diamond jewellery to buy now, below.
